The aim here is to create a competitive security/surveillance camera solution entirely open source.
Functionality Expected
- High definition video recording w/ sound option
- IP-based solution
- Ethernet model should have POE option
- WiFi option
- On-board storage capability
- On-device web interface
- Multiple streams (sizes, codecs?)
Build-it-Now Solution
If I had to build something close to what I intend with this project in less than a week, this is how I'd do it:
- Raspberry Pi
- RasPi camera module or USB webcam
- POE power / data splitter (And a POE switch or injector)
- Install webserver, back-end programs / scripts and streaming service (with VLC?) to RPi
- Create case / mount
Ideas
- USB camera, not RPi-like camera modules
- On-board storage is SD card (maybe even ROM on its own internal microSD?)
- Could be custom PCB based on RPi
